Inked

If you already follow me on Instagram or we’re friends on Facebook, you probably already know about this. Either way, here’s the story:

Back in early December Kyle approached me with the idea of him getting me a gift certificate for a new tattoo as a Christmas present. He wanted to know if it was something I’d like as he knows that the tattoo artist I go to has about a month-long waiting list, so he wanted me to be able to make the appointment sooner rather than later. Of course, I loved the idea, so I told him I’d love that as a gift and it didn’t take me long to decide what I wanted to get!

I don’t know how it really came to be (maybe it was her thunder thighs), but when Isla was a little baby I would call her my “Little Chubby Chicken.” I had a little song for her and everything (it was quite catchy and you’ll never hear me sing it because, no) and it’s just something that made her smile while I was doing diaper changes. I thought it would make for a cute tattoo in honor of her.

Why not her name or a portrait? Not really my style, to be honest. For one, I think you have to find someone who REALLY knows what they’re doing in terms of portrait tattoos, or else what is supposed to be your daughter looks like Herman Munster. I’m also paranoid of words being misspelled that are going to be permanently etched into my skin.

Anyway, after searching for pictures of cute chickens on Pinterest, I finally found this one that I liked, minus a few tweeks that would need to happen. (It was of a rooster, not a chicken/hen.)

When I booked my appointment, my tattoo guy said that he’d want to change it so it wasn’t just a copy of someone else’s work (understandable). I got my appointment booked about a month in advance, so I was golden!

Come the day of my appointment, Kyle had to work, so him mom watched Isla for me and I had to fly solo for my appointment. I was SO nervous because I had never gone by myself for a tattoo before, I have always had someone there for moral support in the past! Other than it hurting like a son-of-a-bitch, I think I did good!

(Side story: There was a younger girl getting a little tattoo in between her shoulder blades and she was freaking out. Her friend looked at me and then told her friend, “Look, she’s getting her ribs tattooed and she’s doing fine, so you’ll be FINE!” The girl eventually calmed down and got her tattoo done, which maybe took a whole 30 minutes. Rookie.)

I digress. My appointment took about an hour and a half, and here’s what my tattoo looked like right before it got wrapped up:

And here’s what it looked like the morning after when I was able to get a better photo of where it’s placed, since everyone was asking me where it was:

I’m SO super happy with the way it turned out, and I’d totally refer anyone who wants to get tattooed in Kamloops to go to Bolder Syde and see Sean, or any of them there, for that matter! He’s done the majority of my tattoos and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Now I’m just not looking forward to the awful, “It’s itchy but don’t you dare scratch it,” phase. o_O

Do you have tattoos? What or and where? Would you get another?
