Determining Décor 2017

As the New Year beings, seven design gurus offer their expertise on the trend that will rule the interior décor world in 2017. One can look forward to a fresh start with the focus turning back to the nature for creative inspiration. At the same time, technology will continue to change customer interactions.

A PEACEFUL BEGINNING

Each season, interior design and decor trends shift to reflect the global outlook - some speak of how we're feeling and others of how we want to feel. People have started seeking respite from their fast-paced lives and want to adopt a minimalist ethos with a meditative, calm element. This can be seen in the emerging colour palette trends that are moving towards muted tones with metallic accents of gold and copper.
In the wake of world developments, the Pantone Colour of the Year 2017 - Greenery- has been chosen for its message of positivity and rebirth. Interiors will be refreshed and revitalized for the New Year; nature will be put on a pedestal, giving birth to palettes such as urban concretes with crisp greens. The furniture industry will see a trend to find beauty in everyday materials with thoughtfully designed furniture and strong '5os and mid-century influences.

Decor and accessories will be all about bold colours - think graphic blacks, whites and powerful pink - and modernizing old crafts and blending both trends together. Dramatic wall coverings will flourish. At the luxury end of the decor spectrum, the look is less stiff. Luxurious, yet laid back. Colours such as smoke, stone, gold and silver paired with the aged look will trend alongside Art Deco and burnished finishes and the simplicity and elegance of Danish, Italian and French modernism.
