Ironic, #795

Sometimes life’s really small details strike me, and I love finding myself staring at funny ironic moments.  That was the case yesterday as I was heading out from a morning of teaching religious school.  I was on the grounds of our temple when I noticed a big green bug.  It wasn’t just any bug though.  It was a praying mantis, and I hadn’t seen one in years.

I am not typically very fond of bugs.  In fact you could say that I usually avoid them at all cost.  But then….the irony of the situation hit me.  A praying mantis at temple…..HA!!!!  Hilarious!  And so fitting.  Images of the green dude donning a kippah and Tallis flashed through my mind, as I held my cell phone as close to it as I could in order to manage to snap a shot.

Life is filled of these wonderful details, and I know they must be surrounding me everywhere.  It is not very often that I take notice though, so I would like to thank the praying mantis for choosing our synagogue for his praying.  You, little green buggy, were a nice reminder to take notice of the hidden treasures that are just waiting to be discovered.

My song of the day today is Alanis Morissette’s “Ironic,” because it is just so fitting.  I loved Alanis in the ’90′s and wish she’d come out with another “Jagged Little Pill” kind of an album.  For the meantime though, click HERE to listen to her “Ironic,” and please use it as a gentle reminder to take notice of all the world has to offer, because there is just so much to enjoy.
