Is a Facelift for You?
As I have said many times before, on this site, plastic surgery is not for me. I am just too much of a wimp to go under the knife.
However, I do understand the temptation to have a facelift, and I know that many of my readers are considering doing so. Therefore, I thought a quick roundup post about facelifts would be appreciated by many of you.
What can a facelift do for your look?
Many people assume that a facelift will transform their whole face. In reality, this is not always the case. For example, if you have hooded eyes that problem will not be dealt with during most facelift procedures. Of course, this issue can be addressed, but to do so will probably require an additional surgery. A facelift will smooth out wrinkles, remove sag and reshape your face, but you may need to have more than one operation to achieve all of the changes you want.
The different types
There are several kinds of facelift surgeries available. Each of which produces a different result.
The main types are:
The SMAS lift
This lift removes excess skin. The remaining skin is then re-draped over the face. During this procedure, the facial muscles are usually lifted and tightened as well. Many surgeons will also remove fatty tissue from under the neck at the same time. If your facial muscles have sagged drastically, you may be offered an extended SMAS lift.
A deep plane facelift
A deep plane lift is what some people call the total facelift. This surgery includes lifting the top and bottom eyelids. It usually includes a brow and neck lift as well.
A mid or cheek lift
As the name indicates, it rejuvenates the mid section of the face, but does not improve the tone or look of the lower face, brow area or neck.
A temporal lift
This lift removes brow wrinkles and reduces the appearance of the glabella crease that some people develop between their eyebrows. This technique can also be use to lift the area around the cheeks. It is a great way of highlighting the cheekbones.
The subperiosteal lift
The subperiosteal lift is one of the least invasive facelift techniques. An incision is made in the scalp or mouth. A tool is then inserted into that hole, and used to ease the layers of the face apart slightly so that the skin can be pulled tight. These are just the main techniques there are several more. This article gives you more details about the different types that are available.
Be clear about what you want
Which method or approach is right for you is dependent on the look you are trying to achieve, the current state of your face and your budget. It would be impossible for me to recommend a facelift for you. Everyone is an individual and there are many variables to take into consideration.
If you are going to have plastic surgery, you need to take your time and do plenty of research. It is important to understand what your options are so that you can make an informed decision and get the results you really want. If you want a facelift Manchester is a good place to do your research. In a city like this, you have a choice of surgeons. Visiting several clinics is a good way to get a better understanding of the different surgeries and work out whether a facelift is the best way to renew your looks.
