Much awaited. Through out the year. Come November and I eagerly count the days to the first week of December when the most awaited announcement would come - "Pantone Color of the Year".
Sitting back on my computer, I could not wait to hear the announcement. And it is "Rose Quartz" & "Serenity". Do they look familiar? I wonder as I ponder deep into the colours. Probe more on it. I guess this time they hedged their bets by not announcing one color but two shades to enjoy. I'm sure that all remember that it was "Marsala" last year. But the question is why two shades instead of one color?
It was made because "a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mind-set of tranquility and inner peace" as Pantone says. It is the first time that Pantone introduces 2 shades as the "color" of the year. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times. I would agree that the chosen colours pairs well with today's trending rose gold metals.
"This more multilateral approach to colour is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity. The consumers' increased comfort with using colour as a form of expression includes a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged, and an open exchange of digital information. This has opened our eyes to different approaches to colour usage."
I know that very soon these colors would be making an appearance soon. Probably will be soon tomorrow on the most popular fashion sites. Visual Merchandisers globally making a dash to dress the windows for Christmas.
But I think if these the colours of a "Baby Boy" or a "Baby Girl"? I guess the stressed lives that we live today, these colours do set a mood of peace. Does calm the minds and sets a stable pace of emotions flowing.
For the others who would like to have a quick recall, these were the Previous colours of the Year:
