Joint Account

$$$$$$
Now that I am officially on the lease instead of a stowaway we have decided that I will be responsible for finances. As an accountant, I can't say I was surprised that the responsibility eventually fell to me since M has gotten a lot more distracted with studying this past year. I am surprised that something wasn't shut off on us since he was three months behind on the internet/cable and two months behind on the gas, electric, and water. Yes, most of these have the Autopay feature and none were used. Hello late charges.
Last week on the way to North Carolina we opened up a joint account - gasp! We will automatically transfer money into the joint account each month for utilities while trading off the rent check. It seemed like the best solution for us since neither of us want to share accounts and neither of us have credits cards to keep from overdrafting.
Maybe it's because money is dear to my heart, but a joint account seems way more of a commitment to a person than moving in together. Moving in was cake! We also went to Bed Bath and Beyond to get the small helpful house essentials like a cheese grater, spoon holder, and salt & pepper grinders. I feel so adult right now getting goosebumps about using that grinder on salads - woohoo!
My nice Platzgraff plates and decorations are getting dusted off as soon as the roommate leaves. I'm stocking up my Amazon wishlist slowly with things I would like for the house [yes, darts are on this list :) ].
I cannot wait to move the cups down to a lower shelf so I can finally reach them!
