…just You Wait

Another Saturday, another shot at Triple Crown glory as the Preakness is run this afternoon in Baltimore. Of course, this year’s race doesn’t just fall on any Saturday. No, today also happens to be the 20th of May, which (as any musical theater nerd knows) was proclaimed Eliza Doolittle Day.

This wonderful coincidence brings together two beautiful scenes from a beautiful film and stage musical. So, naturally, will this blog post will too…

Because I can’t think of a better analogy for the competition these horses face than the struggle of Eliza Doolittle. If you’re cringing right now that I just compared a person to a horse, I’m going to give you a minute to go review that plot of “My Fair Lady” and perhaps its source material “Pygmalion” while you’re at it.

It’s not a perfect comparison, as I imagine these horses are treated with a bit more dignity than Ms. Doolittle is at times, but don’t worry, I’m not going to get into the socio-economics of the situation…today…

No, today I’ll stick with the exhilaration of this classic movie moment…

May we all be so overcome with anticipation as we await this afternoon’s race. The favorite is Kentucky Derby winner, Always Dreaming, and a win would be another step towards a Triple Crown victory, and it should be an exciting run, just you wait…

…bi-daily smile…
