I’ve recently found out that one of my favorite brands of yogurt, “Dannon,” has secretly been utilizing bugs to create a coloring extract to place into their yogurts. To say I’m a little disappointed is an understatement.
I have been a huge fan of yogurt for years and easily thought that the coloring came from the strawberries, raspberries, blueberries placed into the yogurts. To find out, that instead, bugs have been smashed to create a coloring extract has me a bit unnerved. The ingredient is “Carmine,” to be exact.
Yes, it’s gross, but there’s another huge concern with this: what about those with allergies to bugs? This is concerning to them often times, causing huge allergic reactions. A petition has been developed to give to Dannon to change their practices. I have already signed it, and this is a cause that’s important to me. I hope you will sign it too.
For further information about their practices, and also to sign the petition, check it out here.
