Years ago, we felt the need for a second fridge. We had a largish house and constant visitors. So when someone from our colony put up a mini refrigerator for sale, we were excited and got it. I think lots of people found it amusing, but we never regretted it. It was so very convenient and easier to manage our cold storage. Later, a few of my friends also got one and I love how each one has a different use for it.
From the contemporary urban dweller to the newly independent student, a mini refrigerator can be a super handy gadget. Not exactly ideal for a family-of-four household, it is the perfect purchase either as an accompaniment to a normal sized model, or a replacement in smaller apartments.
So how can something so small make such a big difference to your wining and dining lifestyle?

Conveniently compact
A student’s godsend, the mini fridge is perfectly sized to fit nicely in cramped bedrooms to keep those essentials fresh and cool. Aside from cheese, milk and pasta sauce, there might even be space left for a bottle of beer or two…yeah! The smart size also works well in modest inner-city apartments, especially if you prefer to eat out at the surrounding restaurants and cafes. You might want to tuck one away in the living room of a bigger house, to keep some emergency meals in, should one of the troops need to cook up something quick and easy.
Take it away
Take a trip away in your RV or camper van without worrying about the barbecue meats and dips going off, by easily transporting the mini fridge around with you. If you’re renting a holiday home for longer than a week and want to be fully stocked up, this is another great opportunity to bring the fridge along after doing the mother of all supermarket shops.
Low energy
A mini fridge uses less energy than a standard sized fridge: it’s as simple as that! So if you have no need for a bigger refrigerator, it might be time to downsize. My friend, who got one, tells me that some smaller fridges found at Tesco are also used as a cooler/warmer, which keep food at the same temperature- both hot and cold- that you put it in at. Other options are specifically designed to be as energy efficient as possible, so be sure to check out all the details before making your choice.
Party piece
Good parties call for well fed and watered guests, naturally. Whether it’s for keeping party snacks and nibbles at their tastiest or chilling the bubbly, having extra cooling space in the basement or kitchen will keep the food and drinks going for all your party-goers to enjoy. If you choose the cooler/warmer option, heated food such as chicken wings, pastries and curries can also be kept warm and ready to be brought out when tummies get hungry.
Making life that little bit easier, the mini fridge is a bit of an unsung hero. From dips to drinks, this little guy can keep the food coming and the drinks flowing.
