…Lay Down the Law

Before starting today’s post, I’d like to make a statement.  I tried to come up with anything else to discuss.  Personally, I’m incredibly tired of reading and hearing about the government shutdown.  However, the fact is, it’s still happening, and to ignore it, while it sounds pleasant, would be to condone the level of stupidity that continues to shut down our nation’s government.

Now that that’s out of the way…

Day 5:

With the exception of a bill that passed by the House today, which will allow for the retroactive pay of 800,000 furloughed employees once the shutdown is over, there’s been next to no progress.  Not surprisingly, the vote was 407-0.

No one wants to stand in between the furloughed workers and their paychecks.  That would make you look like a real jerk.

To vote against paying these government workers, well, it would be like refusing to pass a budget bill, and then putting 800,000 employees out of work for an indefinite amount of time…

Of course, the passing of this bill raises a whole slew of other issues and questions.

While it’s great that they’re looking out for the people that they put out of a job  — where exactly  is this money coming from?

Last I checked, we had a bit of a budget issue.

Maybe Congress is planning on paying them personally?  After all, they’re still getting paid.
