Lazy Sunday - a weekly column where I discuss my favorite lazy day indulgences - movies, television shows, books and music.

Lazy Sunday - Hanging Out With Daria
Oh Daria. Why did it take me so long to get to know you?
Yes, until recently I had never seen an episode of the fantastic series Daria. I didn't have cable in the late 90's/early 00's and had no chance to catch the show in its original run. It was always there on my periphery but I never took the plunge until recently when I was able to borrow the entire series DVD from a friend.
Wow! Can we say relatable? Seriously, I was Daria in high school. I was a good student, very quiet, read all the time, didn't participate in any extra-curricular activities, had only one best friend, and had a jaded an honest outlook on life. Hell, I even had the same hair (though the glasses came later). The only real difference between us is that I wasn't quite so sour and I did have my fair share of fun.

But still, the similarities are there. Which means I LOVE this show. So astute, so clever, so, so hilarious. I love each and every Morgendorffer. From married to her job yet observant and caring mother Helen to traumatized, high strung, and oversensitive Jake to shallow, shallow Quinn - they all were so fun to watch. And I'm not even mentioning the outstanding supporting characters - the Fashion Club, Kevin and Brittany, the teachers, Tom and Trent, Mac and Jody, and, of course, the always cool Jane Lane.

Everyday I looked forward to popping in the DVD and watching a few episodes about my favorite folks from Lawndale. Now that I'm done, what am I to do? It's a sick, sad world indeed.
