Lesson 848 – Quotable Chicks

Friday’s Quotes for the Chicks

The earth laughs in flowers.
Ralph Waldo Emerson

The first week of school has come to a close. Even though it was only a partial week due to the holiday, it was also a very productive week for everyone. The kids covered their books, organized their supplies, and got started on their assignments, and I was able to put my attention toward some work that had been put on the back burner in the last few weeks. It’s amazing what I can get done in 6 hours of uninterrupted time.

A few quick updates:

Emma picked those flowers at our CSA this week. Other than wildflowers, apparently this is the first bouquet she’s ever picked. They sit in a place of honor on our dining table.

This morning was chilly. A sure sign that fall has come to New Hampshire. Another sure sign?

socks and sandals, it’s the granola mom in me

On a programming note: yesterdayI received a call that my IGenX Western blot came back positive. I have Lyme disease and based on my symptoms it looks like this has been going on for at least the last 3 years, so I’ve got it and I’ve got it good.

Readers of my blog know that 4 of my 6 kids also have Lyme disease and we’ve had varying degrees of success with them. 1 has recovered, 2 have had relapses and have had to go back on treatment, and 1 is in a continued fragile state.

I’m not going to turn this blog into a “Lyme blog” because there is so much more to life than Lyme (like chickens and children) but I am going to devote one day a week (not sure which day yet) to documenting my Lyme journey and treatment. Even in New Hampshire where we sort of specialize in ticks (White Mountains, anyone), Lyme is greatly misunderstood and horribly mis-diagnosed. In my case, I’ve already had a few docs shake their heads at my symptoms. I’ve had chronic systemic tendon issues (must be fibromyalgia), never damage (must be the beginnings of MS), a strange rash (must be a shingles variant), eye problems (must be allergies), headaches (must be spending too much time in front of the computer), and joint pain (must be getting old.)

The only thing worse than getting a positive Lyme report back would have been getting one that was negative. At least now I know my enemy.

I’m not looking for sympathy, I’m looking for answers and I’m going to share everything that I discover.

That’s what Lyme gets for picking on a journalist.

As always, peaceful weekend everyone, health and happiness (and safety) to your flock.
