As you all know, Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag, which happened on June 14, 1777, when it was ratified by the Second Continental Congress. Yes, it’s true, in the beginning, our government actually got stuff done.
Since 1777, we’ve seen quite a few other flags, which of course is the downside of having the number of stars reflect the number of territories your country is made up of, and you can’t seem to stop acquiring territories. A pain for lawmakers, great for seamstresses.
And this Flag Day, we celebrate all of them. But I’ll leave the rest of the history fun to the History Channel:
