Yes, yes, I know. We're already two weeks into 2013. Shouldn't I have been posting about my goals for 2013 two weeks ago?
Well, in theory, yes, that would've been ideal. But seeing as a couple of weeks ago I wasn't go much in a "this year's going to be awesome" mood, writing about goals and all that jazz was not really gonna happen. At least it wasn't going to happen in any way other than "Ugh. My life sucks. I'm never gonna reach my gooooooooooals."
So now, here we are, two weeks into the year. I'm in a much, much better place than I was two weeks ago. In fact, I'm in a much better place than I've been for the last several months, which is a bit ironic, all things considering, but it is what it is, and I'm not complaining.
So...goals, right? I'm not calling them "resolutions" because the chances of me keeping "resolutions" much longer than the first week in February are slim to none. And some of these really aren't resolutions. They're just goals.
Alright. So here we go. First of all, let's start with writing.
One major goal I have is to finish Forget Me Not. I'm on a writing break right now (largely because of the show) and am focusing a bit more on some research that I realized needed to be done as I was in my writing frenzy of NaNoWriMo.
Secondly, I want to start writing for more publications. There's a few online magazines, magazines, and other websites that I love to read and would love to be a part of. So here's to brainstorming and (hopefully) getting published somewhere where I'm not the only writer!
Third, I have a couple new blog projects I'm working on. One I've mentioned before — A Year With C.S. Lewis. The goal with that blog is to post daily. I'm fourteen days in and so far so good! I've also got another blog project that is in the works, but that's a couple of months down the road, so keep on the lookout for more information about that in the future!
As far as this blog is concerned, I want to get myself onto a more regular posting schedule. I'm hoping to start with three posts a week. Although I already failed at that last week because I only posted twice. But in my defense, things were a little crazy around work and I'm neck deep in rehearsals for Proposals.
In fact, as I'm writing this post right now, I'm getting dinner ready and watching a movie in preparation for another audition tomorrow (yes, I know I'm crazy). But still...three posts a week is the goal. If I can get that under control, maybe I'll move up to four or five, but for now, we'll stick with three. I'm also planning to increase the quality of the writing so that what I'm proud of everything I post, and the blog doesn't get filled up with Instagram recaps and things like that.
Also, I noticed that many of you guys have the goal of getting your finances under control. Something you may not know about me is that while I don't claim to be a financial whiz, I do know a thing or two about personal budgeting. I've been making (though admittedly not always following) budgets since I started babysitting at the age of 12. I've taken multiple personal finance courses and my parents have been financial counselors for as long as I can remember. So, I'm going to start a biweekly series on the blog with some tips about personal finance. We'll start with basic budgeting stuff but if you have specific questions, feel free to send them on over!
Now, when it comes to healthiness and lifestyle, I've also got a few goals.
I've said this for the last couple of years, but I really do want this year to be the year that I really get healthy. This doesn't necessarily mean weighing 100 pounds and being a size 2 (because that's just not going to happen), but knowing that I'm healthy because I eat well, I get sleep and I exercise. Healthy is better than skinny any day. I'm taking it slowly, but surely. Instead of trying to get more sleep, cook more, cut out soda, eat out less, and exercise five days a week all at once, I'm starting with one thing at a time. The first goal is to cut out soda and I'll move on from there.
The other thing I want to do is slow down. Not waste so much time on social media. Not spend so many hours watching TV. Not spend the time I'm with my friends staring at my phone. Instead I want to read more books. Spend more time out doing things with people. Rest and relax and enjoy life more. I've already finished two books this year (which I know, two books in two weeks isn't that great, but when you're in production for a show, it's pretty impressive).
And finally, in my spiritual life, I have some goals and resolutions. I'm not going to list the specifics here because, as I said on Thursday, I'm making them to myself and for myself. But one thing I did on the spur of the moment was decide to read through the Bible again. I've read through it in a year multiple times before and I just decided to do it again. So far, so good.
What are some of your goals for this year? How have you been doing over the last couple of weeks?
