This week is going fantastically so far. I was finally called back by the part-time job place to come in and get all those last minute questions out of the way so that hopefully means my job will be official by the end of the day. My niece was over yesterday and we got to spend some quality time together playing with the water hose outside and singing the elmo’s world song (over and over and over again). She’s just over two and an absolute angel. There’s nothing to make you feel better about life than spending time with little kids.
In addition to all that I’m actually managing to make progress on stitching as well as my reading list (although I’m adding books faster than I’m crossing them off so I’m actually making no progress). Here’s what I’ve done so far with the wedding-announcement gift. I do have to add that with all the cross-stitch blogs I follow I don’t know how people manage to have some many WIPs going at once. There’s one blogger who has something like 20 or more WIPs. I couldn’t do it. I barely have room to keep a big project and a quick stitch going at the same time. Not to mention I’m a little too OCD to have so many unfinished projects hanging around. How about you? What are your feelings about WIPs and how many are enough for you to have at once?
third tier of the cake
Here’s what the whole cake looks like. I really like how this light blue-purple turned out. I was worried it was a little too gray at first, but once it combines with the pale yellow and pinks it fits perfectly. The whole thing is very pastel and I wanted something just a touch more vibrant, but with the hot pink backstitching floss and the color I’m planning to use for the actual announcement I think it’ll have just enough pop without being overpowering.
The whole cake. How tasty
Here’s how everything looks together. I don’t have the whole border finished yet, it stops about half way down, so I tried to cut off the sides so it doesn’t look quite so “unfinished.” I do love how this pattern has the stray cross-stitches around the text because it feels like confetti, which somehow makes the whole announcement feel more playful and exciting, which I think really matches my cousin’s excitement about the upcoming marriage (and in case you were wondering she doesn’t…at least to my knowledge…follow my blog so she should still be surprised when she gets the design).
The final tier almost finished
I was able to push a little harder and get the final tier finished except for the back stitch. I’m waiting to get a picture of the whole thing until I have the outlines done. I love these roses. Even though it’s a simple stitch, with the outlining they look so cute. This pattern has been a success overall.
Hope you all are having a great week. I can never tell if Wednesdays make me happy because the week is almost over or sad because I have so little time left in the week to get things done. I’ll have to think about that for the rest of the day ; ) Hope you all have time to do something crafty or read a good book today! The weather here is just gorgeous so I may take advantage of it and spend my day outside in my hammock although the outside is also very spidery here so that’s not a plus.
