Letters To My Former Single Self {Week 1}

What did you think about relationships when you were little? What do you think about them now?
Dear Sweet, Baby Kaitlyn,

I know you're always on the lookout for Prince Charming. No, he's not that boy in your math class or Jonathan Taylor Thomas. You wonder if a relationship like your parent's is even reasonable. They met and started dating at 16 and they've been together ever since.

You don't know how any boy will like you. You are chubby, have braces & glasses and get straight A's. The universe must hate you.

Maybe if you stop making really ugly faces, wearing horrendous outfits and slicking your hair down, a man will one day find you pleasing to the eye.

Really though, you need to just be patient. Believe in everything your heart wants in a relationship. There are men (or at least a man) who still exist that are just like your father.

He will love you, cherish you, and make you feel like you are his whole world.

You play dress up now, in hopes of something that will one day be yours....

...and it will....

You will learn to have many new opinions about relationships. For one, they are never quite what you expect them to be.

You will have to be flexible, accept & adapt to changes, and come to realize that God's plan is rarely your own.

You will learn to trust with an open heart, stop thinking that all men suck, and your heart will love deeper than you have ever known.

And while you are waiting & longing to find your Prince Charming - while you are sad and lonely and desperately wanting to meet him and get married, hear this:

"Where you are right now is God's place for you. Live and obey and love and believe right there. God, not your marital status, defines your life."

-1 Corinthians 7:17

I know you won't heed that advice. You'll grow impatient and settle for some losers along the way.

But one day, when you least expect it, your heart will meet it's other half and you'll finally feel complete.

Love,

Old Kaitlyn
