Seeing as both halves of 2WC are former scouts, I thought I’d share some fun facts about this American institution.
Believe it or not there’s a lot more to this program than their addictive (if over-priced) cookies:
- Founder Juliette Gordon Low organized the first Girl Scout Troop on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Ga.–there were 18 members.
- Today, more than 50 million women in the U.S. today are Girl Scout alumnae.
- There are currently 3.2 million active Girl Scouts (that’s a lot of cookie sales).
- The first Girl Scout cookie sales were in 1917. However, the Thin Mint didn’t appear until the 1950s.
Happy Anniversary to all of you current and former scouts out there. Here’s to another great 100 years!
