Loft Pods: The Perfect Answer For A Home Office
Have you ever been in the position of being happy in your home and not wanting to move, but just needing a little bit more space?
Perhaps there's been a new addition to the family, or - like me - you just really need a dedicated office space!
For the past 4 years, I've made do with a workspace in the corner of my bedroom. As a home educating parent, this can sometimes be difficult as my children are always at home and so will often pop in and out through my work time - and as we all learned this year during lockdown, working from home with constant interruptions is not easy!
Previously I would nip out to coffee shops or hire a co-working space if I had urgent work to do that required peace and quiet, but this year I haven't been able to do that - and I've really felt the pressure.
This has made me realize that I really do need a dedicated office space - preferably away from the main area of the house.
I've considered a summer house outside to turn in to a writing shed but I'd worry about damp and electrical items like my computer...so after doing some research online, I found out about loft pods. Which sound like the perfect solution!

What Is A Loft Pod?
As futuristic and strange as the name makes them sound, a Loft Pod is actually quite a simple extension to your home which is built over the back of the house above the first floor. They can be added to an existing Loft extension or can be a completely stand-alone pod.
They are one of the most cost-effective ways to add more space to your home - allowing you to create an extra bedroom, office space, yoga or reading room....the choice is yours!
Is Planning Permission Required For A Loft Pod?
If you haven't exceeded your permitted development guidelines and you don't live in a heritage area or flat then chances are you won't need planning permission. Simply Loft offer free advice on this and can guide you through the process, ensuring that your design meets all requirements without any fuss.
How Long Do They Take?
Once plans are complete, a loft pod will usually take around 6-8 weeks - so if you start planning today, you could have your new home office space ready to use for the new year!
Have you considered a loft pod for your home? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
