London Calling, #1155

My husband left yesterday for a lengthy work trip to Israel, and being away from him for so long just plainly sucks for me and my kids.  I’m sure they all felt pretty awful while I was gone for a week in Florida, but knowing he is so far away and our communication will be limited honestly leaves me with a little hole in my heart.

I woke up this morning, and he was just arriving at the London Heathrow airport.  He’s so funny.  He had to wait in an impossible line to go through security but commented that even despite its rudeness, everyone sounded so “proper.”

The amazing thing is that we spoke a couple of times through his layover and spent a few hours with a constant banter back and forth through instant message on Facebook.  Once again in my life, I am pausing in complete awe of technology.  It’s just incredible to me to think that he could be sitting in London while I’m in Tucson, and we could be having instant conversation free of charge with no delays.  It boggles my mind how far we’ve come since I was a kid, and honestly, there’s something about it that makes me feel a bit small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things.  Whatever – it’s a relief to know he sounded like he was just down the street, and now we’re only cut off from each other while he’s in the air again for 5 hours en route to Tel Aviv.

Whatever way you look at it, he gave me a great excuse to listen to the Clash this morning.  How could “London Calling” not be my song of the day.  It’s just perfect.  So, you’re welcome – enjoy.  I’ll be singing it all day long.
