As regular readers may be aware, we now have baby number 3 on the way (arrival February 2016!). So before total madness descends, and with Christmas just around the corner, Jon and I have decided to take a break and head off to London for some shopping, sight-seeing and sanity.
As we’ll be staying overnight, somewhere relatively nice and central is a must. Finding somewhere to stay in London can be tricky, you certainly can’t always believe what you see/read on a website and ‘artistic impressions’ can be misleading (hot and cold running syringes you say?). Fortunately, there’s travelstay.com that can assist in finding London accommodation for a getaway such as that we have planned.
I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I love London! The place may be hectic, but give me the shops, tourist hot spots, restaurants, shows and the sheer buzz of just being there and you’re looking at a happy girl!
There are so many things to see and do that we’d like to cram in, however I fear that some things (Ok, Jon’s things) we may just not have time for. There are however some events and places we will make sure we won’t miss. Below are some of our must see things on our itinerary:-
An evening boat trip up the Thames. Ok so it may seem cheesy but there really is something very romantic about traveling up the capitals river slowly at night. Either on deck with warm hot chocolate, or below deck for music, dinner with a cheeky glass of wine (for those of us who aren’t expecting) sounds like my idea of heaven. Floating through the city lit up at night without the crowds and being able to enjoy the views at a leisurely pace-Priceless!
There’s also the Coca Cola London Eye. For those of you who aren’t aware of it, at 135m it’s the world’s largest cantilevered observation wheel with panoramic views across the city and beyond from its observation capsules. Special events including champagne and chocolate tasting experiences, as well as private capsule bookings can be arranged. Not only that, but the price of a ticket also included entry to the 4D cinema experience-Remind me to pack my camera!
Madame Tussauds. World famous for its waxworks, Madame Tussauds opened in London in 1835 and has been a top tourist attraction ever since. It has portrayed the rich and famous (and infamous) in detail with excruciating attention to detail. Millions of people have passed through their doors and they now have 19 other establishments all over the world. They always have new figurines and features, and its one place I make a point of visiting every time we go to London. Where else can I have my picture taken with Daniel Craig, Zoella and Prince Harry all in the same day?
West End shows. Ok so I’m a fan of musicals and I’m not ashamed to admit it. I studied drama and have had a love of the stage since I was a tiny tot. There is nothing that compares to seeing a well performed musical in the Westend.
Whether it’s Les Mis, Miss Saigon, Wicked or The Book of Mormon, a trip to London seems wasted without having taken in a show.
This time we are spoiled for choice, however having seen a number of those currently showing already, it looks like it could be The Book of Mormon currently showing at the Prince of Wales Theatre. Having seen some excerpts from the show, it looks hilarious and possibly just what we need before we sadly bid farewell to London and head off back to Devon.
