This gorgeous spot is one of my happy places on my son's campus. I remember the first time I saw the expanse of green, moist after the rain when the sun just broke out of the clouds. The two trees you see behind the bench were just a young 'uns and have grown over the years.
The bench is a recent addition. As one skirts this lawn of sorts and views it from the road that runs along its periphery, there's a feeling of serenity and peace. The branches of trees along the road are like a curtain, swaying, to offer glimpses of the little heaven in the middle of the lawn.
It looks inviting, no matter what the weather-in the height of summer, there are people sitting there under the scorching sun. During winter, it is just as lovely to sit there enjoying the sun's warmth.
Each time I visited, I'd want to walk to the middle and stand near the tree. Somehow, I didn't because walking on the grounds wasn't really encouraged.
Then finally, in January this year, as I looked at the bench wistfully, and wished I could go sit there and enjoy the sun-it was winter and quite cold-I saw a couple of students pottering around, taking photos of something in the grass.
I needed no second invitation. To drag my son and head to the bench was the work of a moment. I gleefully circled the tree, then sat on the bench, feeling a sense of peace fill me, as my son also sat beside me. Should we not click a pic of us in that setting? Of course and we did. The students obliged.
Felt like a dream come true. It's always the little things, isn't it?
Can you imagine sitting there and reading a book, surrounded by nature, bird sound and maybe a peacock or two strolling by?
As you can see, there are two trees there, side by side, growing together.
Yes, Love is in the air, in the whisper of the trees...Listen to this lovely song "Love is in the air" by John Paul Young (1978) - I kept humming this when I saw that tree!
Love is in the air - everywhere I look around
love is in the air - every sight and every sound
and I don't know if I'm being foolish
don't know if I'm being wise
but it's something that I must believe in
and it's there when I look in your eyes
Love is in the air - in the whisper of the trees
love is in the air - in the thunder of the sea
and I don't know if I'm just dreaming
don't know if I feel sane
but it's something that I must believe in
and it's there when you call out my name...
