I wasn’t going to write this, but it seems I have to. This is not my normal kind of post, and the ending is unknown. Last night I had a sore throat. It’s not the end of the world, but I did have to go to urgent care this morning. I could not get warm no matter what and my throat was on fire. I already knew I had strep throat before they came back with a positive culture. My husband went with me while my girls played with their grandfather and visited a local museum. When we came home, our little girl dachshund could not move the back portion of her body. If you know me, you know that my two dachshunds are part of my family. She is a relatively young dog still at 6 years old and plays with my girls all the time. She doesn’t know she is a dog, she thinks she is a mini-person. She does all kinds of things like talk to you, check on you when you don’t feel good, and play soccer (Yes, she does). My husband wrote about taking her to the vet this past week on his blog, and it was a little bit TMI. I will just say that they did something to her posterior region, and we thought she was getting better. It appears we are having almost the same exact situation as we had with our other dog here. Not all the crazy parts, but the emergency vet part.
I believe she has disk disease. If you read about caring for a dog with disk disease, you will know why I have finally come to the decision that I just can’t get another dog of this breed anymore no matter how much I love them. I have been crying all day in between shivering under blankets and drinking hot tea. I know I usually write uplifting posts, but if you have a pet I know you understand why I had to tell you about this. The feelings associated with my dogs run deep. If you have experienced the loss of a pet and are still grieving, this page might make you cry, but know that you are not alone. A writer conveys many feelings in their work, so I wanted to share this with you in case I don’t “seem” myself.
“I think God will have prepared everything for our perfect happiness. If it takes my dog being there [in Heaven], I believe he’ll be there.” ~Rev. Billy Graham
