…make Room

This “What to Watch Wednesday” brings the return of a 2WC television favorite. This past Sunday, HBO’s “The Newsroom” embarked on its final season.

Another fast-talking, quick-witted brainchild of Aaron Sorkin, “The Newsroom” has been alternately praised and criticized throughout its brief, but much-discussed tenure (this being only its third season).

Not to mention, it’s seriously ticked off a lot of people…and that is part of what makes it a must-watch show.

“The Newsroom” is one of those shows that makes you feel (and look) smarter for watching it. Not to mention, the brilliance that is this cast. They are all absolutely fantastic, with of course Jeff Daniels as their fearless leader (and I’m sure it’s a coincidence that the “Dumb and Dumber” sequel comes out this week…).

This show not only provides great stories to watch, but great conversations for us the viewers. It continues those important discussions that have (in many cases) been forgotten in the several years since they were headlines.

[Side note: for those who don't already watch the show. The news stories covered in the plot are several years removed. For example: This season opened with the Boston Marathon Bombings.]

It’s a harsh reminder of the short attention span our society can have and the impossibility of staying truly invested in all the important stories of our time, and thereby serves as a testament to the importance of having a press that is laboring tirelessly to bring the truth to light. Spoiler: the stories are somewhat critical of the modern press.

It’s brutal, it’s honest, it’s brilliant, it’s important, and I can’t wait to see how it ends.
