After many years of complaining about my bus journey I took my
frustration on twitter, and someone suggested that I set up an
e-petition. I set one up, but didn’t expect much, and I never thought
that it would have attracted over 3,150 signatures since December. I
thought it would only get 20-30 of my family and friends to sign it and
then it would quietly die.
The petition has been supported by local politicians and it has been
endorsed by the local mayor. I have been in the local newspaper and
even on TV. I can’t believe how big the petition has become, and thanks
to my pressure the local bus company First Bus has announced they are
going have a review of their ticket prices. However they are paying for
the consultancy so I’m not sure how independent it will be.
So I want to keep up the pressure on First Bus by getting more
signatures. The petition currently has 3,160 signatures, but if we get
to 3,500 then the local government has to debate the petition which I
feel would be an important step, and help to make sure Bristol gets the
affordable bus service it deserves. At the moment it’s hard hit working
commuters who are being punished by the expensive fares, and lower
prices would help ease congestion & benefit the environment.
Please sign my petition and help me reach my goal to Make Fares Fair!
