Make The "Sharpie Project" Work {DIY}

I'm sure you guys have seen thousands of versions of the "Sharpie Project" on Pinterest.
I wanted to try it forever, but everyone was disappointed with the end result -
The Sharpie always comes off.

Right before Christmas I was trying to find cheap Christmas decorations.
We were on a really tight budget for the holidays and I knew I didn't want to buy a lot of items until they went on sale after Christmas Day.

So I started getting creative.
I made my Christmas Trees To Match Your Home Decor
Created the Peppermint Chocolate Krispie Treats {In A Jar}

And, I found a way to successfully perform the "Sharpie Project".

I went out and bought a plain, white, oven-safe glass tray at Walmart for under $10.

I went and bought a pack of Oil Based Sharpies from Michael's with a 50% off coupon.

They have to be the Oil Based ones. Not regular Sharpies and not Water Based.

Then I bought Transparent Glass Paint from Martha Stewart at Michael's as well. It was $3.

You need to buy "Crystal Clear" so it's invisible.

I got this idea because I used this same line of paint to make my glitter champagne glasses & carafe awhile back.
Go Noles....

Take your glass item and use your Sharpie to make any sort of design you like

I chose to make a "falling glitter" pattern with the gold Sharpie....

I then placed the tray in the cold oven, closed the oven door, and turned the oven to 350 degrees. Once the preheat light turned off (signaling the oven was at 350) I baked the tray for 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, turn the oven off and let your glass item cool completely before removing.

Once I took the tray out of the oven, I painted a layer of the Martha Stewart glass paint over the entire tray with a small sponge.

Once the paint was dry, I repeated the oven baking listed above.
Item in cold oven --> Warm to 350 degrees --> Bake for 30 minutes --> Turn off oven and let cool

It worked! And it lasted!!! I used the tray for Christmas Dinner and throughout the holidays.

It still looks 100% the same as the first day I made it!

Hooray! An easy version of the "Sharpie Project" that works!!!!
