Masked

Posted on the 20 April 2014 by Bren Lee @JustBrenLee

He awoke in a dark room. It felt damp and smelled of mold and mildew. There was a light overhead that kept sputtering off and on. Finding that he was laying on a cold, wet floor, he slowly sat up.

Gut wrenching pain consumed his body.

“What the…..” looking down at his midsection, he saw blood on his torn shirt.

He lifted his shirt to find an incision on his abdomen that had been stitched up.

“What the hell happened?”

Still trying to wrap his head around what has happened, he look down at his legs. Something was holding his feet. He tried moving them but heard the clanking of chains! His ankles were chained to the floor! However, he couldn’t see the end of the chain!

Puzzled and a bit panicked at this point, he wondered “What the hell are my ankles chained to?!”

As he glared across the room, all he saw was darkness.

He started checking his pockets for matches, a lighter, or a flashlight. Anything he might use to see across the room. Out of his pocket he pulled a lighter. He smoked so why shouldn’t there be a lighter there. But he promised his wife that he would try to quit. That was the least of his worries at this point.

He slowly started pulling the slack on the chains as he crawled across the floor. The lighter wasn’t much help and it quickly kept burning his fingers. He was intent on finding out what he was chained to so he could hopefully break himself loose!

The floor was wet and a bit slippery. The overhead light swayed as it continued to flicker. It was absolutely quiet except for the trickling of water coming from across the room.

Where was he? How did he get here?

Finally! He reached a wall where the chains were pinned to the wall. To the left of the chains, was a table. There were many tools on this table. We’re talking man tools. A saw, vice grips, heavy-duty pliers, bolt and chain cutters!

“Aha!”

He reaches over to grab a hold of the chain cutters and starts trying to cut himself free. He was still in a lot of pain from whatever the abdomen incision was from. He felt a bit disoriented and exhausted, yet he was determined to set himself free!

The chain cutter broke. So he grabbed the saw and started sawing away at the chain.

“What was that?”

A god awful sound came from his right. It sound like an old rusty door on a ship being opened. Was he on a ship? Was he in a dungeon of some sort?

“Is someone there? Hey, umm I’m hurt and my legs are chained to this wall. Can you help me?”

Just at that moment, another light turned on over towards the right where the sound came from. There standing in the light was a dark figure. He couldn’t quite make out if it was male or female or see any distinct features. His head was hurting and he just felt confused.

“Hey, can you help me. I really need some help! Please!”

The figure started walking closer to him but never said anything. The closer the figure got, he could see more of the figure yet still couldn’t confirm gender. It didn’t matter, as long as this person would unchain him, he didn’t care what they were!

Through the doorway came another figure who quickly caught up to the first dark figure. Together, they walked closer to him, quietly, saying no words.

The pain in his abdomen was too much for him to manage although he desperately trying hanging on. He blacked out. Darkness consumed him.

He wasn’t sure how long he was out for but as he was coming to, he was once again, laying on a cold, wet floor. As he slowly opened his eye, he saw two figures in front of him. There were standing side by side and whispering to one another. As they turned around, he noticed they had no faces. There were dressed in black, wore gloves, and were masked.

“Where ……” he tried sitting up “am…. I?”

Just at that moment, he felt something thump him in his head from behind. As he grabbed his head, he felt wetness. He knew it was blood. Trying to hang onto his consciousness, all he could remember was ……………. Masked.
