Memorial Day 2013

Memorial Day 2013

Five days off is just the right amount of time to de-stress and come back recharged for the rest of the summer. Now that the roommate situation is finally resolved, I can look forward to enjoying my summer carefree rather than looking over my shoulder and changing the locks.
Ex-Roommate came over last night, let himself in without knocking at 8pm - I handed him his check (which he refused to take without $150 more written out to him), and then I crawled in bed to go to sleep while M got our keys back. He wanted to talk out the situation which meant he wanted to rant and rave about how unfair it was to live with us while I paid him money and cleaned up his shit. Life is hard. I still hope he fails Step One, and if he becomes an actual doctor he'll be getting the meanest Google review from yours truly about his pathetic character. In the meantime I will lie in wait for that day.
Texas was uneventful, but nice. I was originally going to attend a Battlestar Gallactica convention in Houston on Saturday, but the weather was really bad and more time with my family than in a car sounded better. We ate barbecue food at my favorite restaurant, Spring Creek, and hung out around the house watching TV and movies.

"Side" Salad Texas style

My parents and siblings did their best to convince M and I to move there for residency. They lost. In my heart I will always miss my childhood state, but I would miss my friends and four Pennsylvanian seasons much more. I prefer the greenery and the light air over the dead grass and dry heat. But my god will I long for the calorie-laden "light" servings at every restaurant. This picture is what the light meal with a side salad looks like at a bistro. A SIDE salad. I don't even get that much cheese in Pennsylvania on a grilled cheese sandwich entree. I'm sure their balsamic vinagrette was made with bacon fat. Got to thicken it up somehow, y'all!
I caught something while in Texas and then continued to weak my immune system by day drinking on memorial day with friends. Hopefully it wasn't contagious because we were all sharing cigars and hookah at night. When will I ever learn? With miraculous foresight, I had taken off Tuesday just in case. I woke up with a full blown sinus infection and could barely move. Kira and I lounged around watching Arrested Development and recovering:
