There’s nothing like taking a walk around the area to rejuvenate and refresh. Simple pleasures – a direct route to mindful living. And mindful living is a sure shot way to enjoy life.
Yo, what’s mindful living?
I see it as being conscious of my actions, however trivial they may be.
It helps me focus on the things I do.
It makes everything I do enjoyable – I am conscious of what my senses receive. I notice the textures, the colors, the fragrances. In the process, it wakes up my sixth sense.
And for the things that get on my nerves, mindful living helps me see the silver lining, the brighter side.
Then of course, there is the lighter side that brings laughter and squeezes out the stress int the situation. When you see the funny side, things don’t look so bad. You know what they say – a smile is a curve that sets everything straight.
And so, I go through my day smiling most of the time. I stroll through life savoring each moment as much as I can. Here are some scenes I added to my memories this week.
Mindful living – my way
While out for dinner, I was fascinated with this guy making masala dosas. Watching open air cooking is always an amazing experience. The air was fragrant with the food and the dextrous way in which the mass cooking was done was a beautiful sight. They worked effortlessly – turning out plate after plate of uniformly delicious dosas.
After dinner we walked around the garden in the dark. There’s a special charm, seeing foliage in darkness with just parts of it highlighted by the shadows cast by the moon and the light from the lamps.
Yesterday, I was walking past our legendary market and, as always, was enchanted by the flower ladies working tirelessly to ensure the flowers are fresh and the garlands displayed just so…it is festival time over the next two days.
As I walked on, I found the fruit sellers working at a steady pace to prepare these fruit baskets.
How could I resist taking a photo of the artists putting these fruit bouquets together?
Another sight that always makes me smile is this display. You’ll find a lot of these in our area. They are pretty good quality dress material. Hey, pretty and good quality. It is the tailoring charges that are prohibitive.
I managed to shake my head at an inviting fruit stall – these vendors are very persuasive and make it very hard to say no.
The sun was high and my tummy rumbled. So I set off home via this colorful lane.
But not before I spent a few minutes, watching the world go by with my dear friend, Ronald McDonald.
Mindful living…and the living is easy. Do more of what you love. Be happy!
What was one thing you did last week that you’d call mindful living? Please share in the comments!

My friend, Joy of Facets of Joy loves sharing, and learning about, presence through photography; while mind is engaged in framing specific shots to fit a theme, heart naturally opens to explore and celebrate. The January session of I Believe in Magic: 30-day Photo Journey has a theme of exploring the energy of home and begins January 12th – registration is now open through January 14.
