Mirror Mirror on the Wall
Recently, I came across this amazing portrait series that made me ponder. More than usual. The portraits depict older people seeing younger versions of themselves in the mirror. Do we see a different version of ourselves despite the passing years? Naturally, I immediately thought of my own grandmother. She is in her 80's. She is independent, self-reliant and the most rational, sensible, and wise person I know. It's incredible to see her enthusiasm for life despite all that she's experienced. She isn't a woman of the old world with static, traditional views. She is ever evolving, changing, shifting, adjusting to modern life and thinking. She surprised everyone a few years ago with her desire to have a cell phone. Anyway, when I asked her which version of herself she saw in the mirror, she didn't really give me much of an answer but when I went through her younger pictures, held one up and and jokingly asked,
"Do you still see this beautiful woman when you look in the mirror?"
She smiled and nodded. Sheepishly. It was clear to me, she still saw that beautiful stunner that she still is. That was amazing to see. I'm a sucker for these moments. If I could capture each one and turn them into a Hallmark Movie of the Week, I would. I'm an even bigger sucker for old people. Something about a person who has lived for 80, 90 years, who has lived through world changing historical events. They are museums of life... filled with love, loss, mistakes, regrets, resentments, hard work, and perseverance. Anyway, back to the woman in the mirror... I'm excited to share a few portraits of my grandmother exuding as much (if not more) grace and style than the Queen of England (sorry Beth!). I adore these pictures... *also a sucker for old photos.*
Mirror Mirror on the Wall  Nobility is in her blood. Princess of Tyre.
Mirror Mirror on the Wall Ah, so beautiful. And here is a picture of my grandmother and moi, about to walk down the isle. What a treasure right? We look tres dapper especially me in my white faux fur (thanks mom!). And a little fashionista was born. For the record, I'm not giving cut eye to the paparazzi.
Mirror Mirror on the Wall Oh mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?
Enjoy!
