My Disney Role Models*

Posted on the 14 September 2013 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairy
You hear quite a lot of things about Disney characters, and children's movie/tv characters in general, being unrealistic role models for kids.  A lot of parents dislike the unrealistic "Happy Ever After" portrayed in the Disney Classics and feel that the perfect Pretty Princesses and Swashbuckling, Manly heroes are unattainable role models for children. Personally, I disagree. I have always been a big fan of Disney movies and think there is nothing wrong with a little escapism - even for children!  And the general rule of a Disney film is that good things happen to good people in the end, and the bad guys get their comeuppance - I don't think that's a bad lesson to teach a child, do you?!  Lately I've been watching a lot of Disney movies with my nieces, and I can't wait to be able to introduce them to Tyne when he's a bit older. With this in mind, I've been giving some thought to all of the Disney characters I've come to love over the years and who I feel are really fantastic role models to children.... 1.Sulley from Monsters Inc/Monsters University My Disney Role Models* James P. Sullivan is a monster who doesn't really like to scare people. He may look like a big terrifying oaf, but he's a gentle giant with a heart of gold and goes out of his way to make sure Boo gets home safely even when it means sacrificing himself. A true fairytale hero!
  2. Jessie from Toy Story My Disney Role Models* Jessie is such a good role model for girls because she believes that girls can do anything! She has a big heart, but can keep up with Woody and Buzz and isn't afraid to speak her mind.
  3. Mrs Incredible from The IncrediblesMy Disney Role Models* Managing life as mother, wife and super hero saving the world?! Say no more! 4. Belle from Beauty & The Beast My Disney Role Models* I love that Belle is basically a book nerd - a girl after my own heart! With extreme loyalty to her family, and no fear of standing up for herself against the Beast - she is just what I'd like my future daughter to be!  5. Princess Tiana from The Princess & The Frog My Disney Role Models*Princess Tiana worked her way up from the poorest of the poor until she finally achieves her dream of running her own business - pretty inspiring!!!
I was really excited to see that many of my favorite Disney Characters ( including Jessie, Sulley and Mrs Incredible!) are featuring in the new Disney Infinity game which looks SO exciting!!
They recently paraded through the streets of London to promote the campaign....check out the video below:
Pretty cool, hey?! Who are your favorite Disney Characters of all time and how do you think they fare as role models? As always, I'd love to hear from you! *This post is sponsored by Spreaditfast
