My Dream Garden

A few months back I wrote a post on my blog about our little summer Garden makeover project....
As much as we love our house, the garden is one of the aspects of it that we're not so thrilled with - as there isn't really a garden to speak of. There are some steps down from our kitchen which lead to a patio area, and further steps leading down to the garage - there's a fenced off area of bushes next to those steps but that's pretty much it.
There was, however, a reasonably sized open space which was essentially the roof of the garage with fencing around it to stop the kids from toppling off! So in the summer, desperate for a nice outdoor play space for Tyne and somewhere to sit and relax ourselves - we covered the area with artificial grass, bought some potted plants and flowers, and filled the space with a nice chair set for us and a play house, slide, water play set and sandpit for Tyne - it wasn't much but it really made a huge difference to the overall look and feel of the outside area, and gave us a nice space to spend time in - I love being out there as there's a lovely clear view of the sea which I find so relaxing!
However, now that winter is here I find myself feeling so depressed every time I look out of the back window and see the state of the area now - the artificial grass has blown out of place in parts, there are toys strewn everywhere, plants blown over and gigantic spiders just about everywhere you look! Yuk!
Tyne asks every day if he can play outside, but aside from how nasty the weather has been I just can't stand the thought of heading out there with how it looks at the moment!
I'm dreaming of Summer and what I can do to overhaul the area once again, and return it to its former glory.
We are very limited on space, and the fact that there is no real soil means there's so little we can do with regards to growing anything - we'd need to start looking at greenhouses for anything like that -  but I'm hoping just a few little touches here and there will help.
Here's a little mood board of some ideas I like:

Do you have a small outdoor space? If so I'd love to hear about what you do to make the most of it!
