My Grilling Hours

It was Monday, 1.30pm.  Lunch hour for everyone.  For me of course it always is a KFC hour.  I am a chicken man.  KFC certainly is a blessing for chicken lovers like me.  The very color, crunchy texture, ravishing looks, enticing presentation, the lingering taste and more over the reasonable price of KFC chicken made me choose it as my lunch menu.

I generally go to KFC with my colleague.  Why guesses?  Female colleague.  I must mention that she is beautiful, gorgeous and frankly an envious soul.  Well as I went to her cubicle I found the chair to be empty.  Thought, she must be in the wash room.  Tried at her mobile.  Switched off.  Thought she may be waiting at the parking lot.  Yes.  But to my surprise she was hurriedly going out in her car.

A kind of unusual feeling started in me.  The situation made me apprehensive that she is going out for lunch without me.  My intuition was clear.  She will not go out with others.  I looked around in the parking lot.  One of my colleagues was parking his vehicle.  I grabbed his bike and followed her.  She was going into a narrow secluded lane which is known as a ghost lane.  She pulled over her car to a small bush.  By then I reached and ran into her car like FBI folks.  I found her to be in much tense.  Not in a speaking mood.  She lit a cigarette.  Looked at me thoughtfully rather awfully.  I couldn’t restrain my tense.  I threw her cigarette out and inquired as to what is so scaring.  Pat the question.  ‘Can you go to my home?  Mom and Sister are in danger’, she said.  I was totally confused.

She managed to explain that some goons attacked their house, threw all the luggage out and threatened to kill them if they don’t vacate the house forthwith.  Her mom didn’t heed and sat there in the premises as the goons have locked the house.  It was not safe for my colleague to visit them.  She said she couldn’t reach me at my mobile.  Well I did not waste further time. Took her immediately to KFC feeling that such a place would provide better detraction from tense moments.  Made her comfortable.  Called my sister.  Wanted them both to savor the chicken or the KFC crowd till they listen from me.  Packed some KFC chicken stuff for her mother.

I drove to her place.  There were many people around the house.  Some were making strolls and some were ensconced in the surrounding corners the way beggars do.  I could smell that they were armed.   They were all staring at me albeit conniving.  Gladly I was not stopped by any one.  I had entered into the sprawling house.  The security guard was not there. Couple of constables were present. Her mother and sister were sitting on the naked floor. The constables along with three others were engaged in a chat. Their cursing and threatening looks didn’t deter me approaching her mother. I am a person who generally stay away from eerie people. But at that moment I was totally different, showcasing brave, fiery,  and bold body language. I am all well built, handsome and crispy like a KFC fiery grilled chicken. My figure and posture made them a little perturbed and taken back. Especially the constables.

I straight spoke to her mother, told them to go inside the house. Started breaking the lock. The goons tried to stop me. I had a small chat with the police. Warned them if they connive with the goons. That isolated the goons. The team leader bhai approached me saying saab, aap kaun hothe hain to involve” So much further.  I warned them in a fiery temper and tone that I have already spoken to the top brass in the department and that he and his men whoever creeping around would be taken away by police in the next few minutes. I seized his mobile and did not allow him to speak to his people elsewhere. Took him out, coerced him to send his people away from the premises. He was trying to warn me in many words. I said, if you need the right answer to the situation, come to my cousin’s office where we will settle things or be prepared for special grilling by police.  I was wondering and feeling amused inside as to how I could act so fiery.

The bhai started for my place in his Black Scorpio. We know, the Scorpio became the brand bhai, especially in our movies. May be a long ride on Scorpio while relishing KFC stuff would be a style statement. Local ride savoring global stuff!

Let me narrate further happenings. I made the mother and daughter comfortable inside the house. Called up a few friends to stay with them. Constables were guarding at the gate. I handed the KFC chicken parcel to the constables. You should see the smile on their face. I told to myself.  “KFC ka saath in trying situations”.

I reached my cousin’s office, all through the route thinking as to how to handle the situation further. The bhai may come with more ferocious companions.  Hitherto I had a kind of circumstantial luck. What next? If I don’t find it in my next interaction? Whatever! I made up my mind to be more cautious in my next moves. After all I was not sure about the whole background from both sides.  Out of emotional fierce I plunged into the scene.

On the way I phoned my colleague to join me in my cousin’s office with some elders. The news that her mother is safe and the goons left the house gave her the joy of life. I wished that I could have been with her to embrace my share of joy at the moment. After all, the best moments for any couple mostly happen unplanned. Such situations would bring special touch and pleasant currents.

As I was trying to come off the thoughts I found the bhai coming, wholly drunk. It seemed that he had a full bottle. I wondered how indiscriminate he could be to get that high so soon in a half-an-hour gap. We sat together in the office. A cool and quiet place which has power to silence people like a library ambiance. The bhai became a little mulayam (soft). He told me that his other friends are going to join in a while.

It was December. Exactly 24th Dec. Just one day away for Christmas. Incidentally he was a Christian.  I took the opportunity to speak to him about the significance of the festival. The divinity and serenity of Jesus.  The responsibility on our part to be a right human being shedding greed and hatred at least during Christmas season.

I told him that Jesus would like people who transform bad to good.  Then the following conversation started with a little interesting tone and flow.

Me:   How long are you earning?

He:   10 years

Me:   Are you married?

He:   Yes

Me:   Children?

He:   One daughter 2 sons.  I love my daughter.  She is my life.

Me:   Are you happy with your family life?

He:   Yes

Me:   Are they happy with you?

He:   I think so

Me:   How frequently you drink?

He:   Every day.  Twice a day or sometimes even more.

Me:   How much do you earn?

He:   30K

Me:   So out of 30K you earn you are spending almost 20K for your drinks

He:   May be

Me:   What does your wife do?

He:   Home maker

Me:   Where do your children study?

He:   Government School in the nearby basti

Me:   That means, you are spending most of your earnings for drinks.  Making your beautiful family adjust with a pittance.  Not giving right education to your children at the cost of your drink.  I went on further saying many things.

He:   A long pause with falling tears.  Pondering over something.

Me:   You know my spending attitude?

He:   No

Me:   Whenever I spend a thousand rupees for myself for my own purpose whether to enjoy a party or so, I ensure to spend equal amount for my people for their individual needs.  I ensure that I act with utmost responsibility and accountability to my parents and others.  I ensure I maintain a decent behavior with every one.

You love your daughter so much.  But you don’t give right cloths, right food and right education.  Same with your other family members.  Your wife awaits your arrival every day ignoring your actions.  She makes you comfortable with no complaints.  You are probably taking it as your prerogative or privilege.  It is wrong.  In fact, with the kind of your behavior and professional avocation you are making them more in secured.

I found him heavily emotional with rolling tears.  He placed his head on my table and started weeping.  May be his drunken state had brought in him the maudlin expressions and emotions.

He:   I never thought so much, Sir…. Weeping.

*Circled me in his both arms and started kissing left and right*

Me:   OK.  We will discuss about this again.  For now please take care of yourself.

He:   Sure.

Me:   Who had sent you for this task?

He:   Some XX Rao

Me:   What for?

He:   The house belongs to them some 30 years ago.  They forgot the ownership as their grandfather had expired. Now after a gap of so many decades they found the documents and felt the occupant wouldn’t accept their claim easily to  vacate the house with normal means.  They handed the task to me.

Me:   What are you expecting?

He:   Now I want to leave the case to them.  My associates are coming.  Let me go out and see that they go back.  I may come here tomorrow if XX Rao wishes so because I took advance from them.  Otherwise, I would prefer the issue to be dealt with by themselves.

Thank you, Sir.  You gave me a new lease of life.  This is the day of realization and enlightenment for me.  I want to take care of my wife and children well. I invite you for the Christmas party.  Accept my invitation and visit us.

Me:   I felt the real Christmas celebration had already started for me by virtue of this transformation in him.  Festivals are not for celebration of self.  They should bring celebrations for people around us too.

I gave a warm hug to him and requested him to wait for a while for my colleague.  My colleague and her uncle arrived in a hurried tension. But the scene here made them a little perplexed.  I briefly explained the situation to my colleague.  We handed him INR 25K for his Christmas celebration.

The above incident is a mixture of real situation with an added flavor of  fiction.  My fierce action and apt maneuvering  helped me handle the things in my favor.  Thanks indeed for Indiblogger and my favorite outlet KFC for reminding me the day.  Even today, I feel proud to have faced the situation and thank my colleague who wanted me to handle it.  The issue got settled later and the real owner moved into the house.  The biggest surprise that I found later was that the house owner was my ex-colleague who inherited property from his grandfather.

I wish everyone a Very Happy New Year.  Let us usher into the New Year with confidence, conviction and goal.  Let  The Almighty be with us in all our endeavors.

I missed my lunch so its time for me to have supper at KFC.

God Bless us.
