Netflix to the Rescue.

Netflix Families | where my heart resides-3

5:00pm is what I like to refer to as “the final hour.” This is when you can find me calling Brett in 15 minute increments asking the following questions: “Are you on your way home yet, sweetie?” and “Where exactly on the freeway are you?” and “So you’ll be home in 17 minutes if you hit all green lights?”

I wish I was exaggerating.

5:00pm is my breaking point, where all of the day’s chores and cries and poopy diapers and toys on the floor catch up with me, and I wearily wave my little white flag to surrender. This is also the same time of day when I attempt to make dinner, which is already a struggle, made even more difficult by the baby hanging on my leg speaking whiny gibberish while I try to cook pasta.

Enter: Netflix (and Elmo) to the rescue!

I’ve been a loyal member of Netflix for as long as I can remember. I love watching weird indie films, food documentaries, and getting hooked on TV shows that I wouldn’t know existed had I not gotten sucked into a seven-hour marathon on a rainy afternoon (Arrested Development, Mad Men, Parenthood, Scandal, just to name a few).

Between Brett and I, we get more than our money’s worth with Netflix, which is why I was super excited when they introduced a whole new family site just for kids. $7.99 for unlimited movies and TV shows AND ELMO?! It’s basically the best eight bucks I spend every month.

And just like that, “the final hour” became “the Sesame Street hour”. Everett gets to learn letters and shapes and colors while I cook in peace. Win-win.

Do you let your baby/toddler watch a little bit of TV sometimes? Have you tried the Netflix family site? So far we’ve only let Everett watch Sesame Street—any other (educational) shows I should add to our queue?
