Your home is a place to feel comfortable and welcomed back to after a long day. Many of us choose to update and modernise our homes over the time that we live there, to make them feel more like our own, and to put our stamp on the space – if you think your home could do with a facelift, there are a few ways you could do this from adding designer radiators to upcycling furniture and restoring old, period features back to their former glory. Read on to find out more.

Heating and lighting

Two of the most important features of your home – heating and lighting are necessities, but they can also create a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, for your family and any visitors. There are a few ways you could give your home a facelift whilst enhancing your heating and lighting too, for example, you could add a modern, stylish designer radiator to one of the rooms you’re looking to improve – and this doesn’t mean a white, plain radiator. You can choose from designer radiators in different colours and styles, whether that’s a bright color to complement the aesthetic of a room, or a shining chrome finish to bounce around any natural light. You can make your radiator the star of the show.

Along with a new radiator, you could also add feature lighting to create ambience or modernise a room. You could add integrated spotlights to a ceiling or under the cabinets in your kitchen, or you could hang a statement chandelier as a centrepiece. Modern lighting can change the whole feel of a space – it can make it look bigger, brighter, and more inviting. As well as this, your new lighting should also be more energy efficient too so that you can make a saving!

Painting

Sometimes a lick of paint can make all the difference. When it comes to redecorating, it is mostly based on personal preference – for example, if you have a theme in mind, you may have a color palette that you’re trying to stick to, or maybe you’re looking to go for the wow factor and choose a completely new color. You can give a room a whole new lease of life with the colours you choose whether that’s more muted hues, like light blues and creams, or why not try a feature wall with bold, bright colours?

Upcycle

This is one of the most popular ways of updating furniture within your home. It is a simple and easy way of making improvements, and it could save you some money too. Whether you’re looking to give your kitchen cabinets a new lease of life without spending a fortune, or you’re looking for a way to make a piece of furniture like a chair look a little more modern, upcycling is the way to do it. You could sand and repaint your cabinets a fresh color or recoat them to bring them back to life. You could reupholster a chair or stool in new materials to fit in with your chosen aesthetic – the possibilities are endless with one of these projects.

Restore old features

A lot of new homes are lacking these traditional features – however, if you live in a period or older-style house, you can use these features to enhance your home in a modern way. For example, maybe your home has wood panelling on the walls. They can add character and bring some elegance to a room – you can restore them and spruce them up with some oil-based soap and scratches can be covered with wood stain. Antique tiles are incredibly sought after in modern homes, so why not add some to an old fireplace to make a statement? You may think these features are old and

outdated, but they can make for an interesting centrepiece in a room and can also be a selling point should you decide to move in the future.
