I was sat in the doctor’s surgery the other day and picked up an old issue of Stylist. On the cover was a hideous photo of Nigella Lawson, covered in toffee sauce. Now excuse me for a moment while I get on my soap box, but this woman is just the poorest excuse for a chef, in my opinion, and all this prancing about licking things in front of the camera just makes me gag.
Apparently, Nigella has denied that the cover was remotely sexual. In fact, she denies that anything she does is remotely sexual. I beg to differ. I recall sitting through her Christmas ‘special’ and it was so blatantly sexual, and so embarrassing, that she made my whole family feel uncomfortable as we sat watching it together.
It doesn’t help that the BBC have taken to showing her programmes in soft-focus, so that they look like one of those ridiculous old chauvinist sixties shows where every time the sexy woman comes on screen suddenly everything goes all soft and googly. Literally half the show is taken up with Nigella either rolling her eyes orgasmically or licking something!
There is no doubt at all that she’s just exploiting the ancient connection in the male brain that is revealed by the word ‘tasty,’ and the thing about it is that it’s all just so tasteless.
Maybe I’m just being old fashioned, but isn’t this just porn for people who are too scared or prudish to actually watch real porn?
