Last night my family and I decided to jump on the bandwagon and rush to the movie theater on opening weekend of “Into the Woods.” I’m so glad we did. Bravo Disney! You have a hit on your hands. What a stunning movie that is great for the whole family. Perhaps the witch and giant are a bit scary for preschoolers, but what Disney fairy tale doesn’t have a scary villain?
This movie was so well made on so many levels. It is visually gorgeous with a beautiful movie set, costumes, and special effects. The casting was just perfect, too. It was great to see our old favorites, Meryl Streep, Tracey Ullman and Johnny Depp, step into these characters with ease, and our new Hollywood “it” girls, Anna Kendrick and Emily Blunt hold their own, as well. The new comers, Daniel Huttlestone as Jack, James Corden (been around for years even though I’ve never heard of him before) as the Baker, and Lilla Crawford as Little Red Riding Hood were also wonderful.
If the question is, “Should I go see Into the Woods,” the answer is, “Yes, and you want to see it on a big screen with surround sound, too.” Don’t wait for it to come to Netflix.
For me, “No One is Alone,” has always been the stand out song of this musical, and it is really well done in the movie, too. Here’s the movie recording sung by Anna Kendrick and James Corden. Enjoy this emotional and gorgeous tune and happy movie going!
