North Carolina Weekend

This morning I woke up exhausted with my eyes swollen shut and head pounding. A heavy night of drinking? Nope, 17 hours of driving in three days is the culprit. As a spur of the moment decision earlier last week I decided that 6 months of stepmom-less time was too much, so I committed to driving from PA to NC on Friday night and heading back on Sunday. Urghhhh. The drive and accompanying exhaustion was well worth it because I got to visit my favorite person and see my step step dad (my stepmom remarried after my dad) before he left on deployment in January.
On Saturday we went grocery shopping and played with her two puppies while waiting for her husband to fly over the house (he's a Marine pilot).

Sweetie pie!

Later that night we went to a birthday party for one of her friends who just turned 40. I am used to being around people that are older than me by a few years, but not usually 15 years older than me. Heck, I can't even rent a car yet and some of the people at this party had kids and a mortgage! [Much like the majority of blogs I follow :)] It was still really fun and the birthday boy partied for longer than my 24 year old self could handle. If my parents hadn't named me the designated driver, I could see all those real adults pressuring me into letting loose and taking shots. No thank you!

Rockin' glasses lately

The party people either a) Assumed I was married or b) Assumed I was single and on the lookout for a man. There was a singer in a band rocking out and two of the guests asked if I wanted to be introduced. No thanks, I'll stick to my tall blond med student back home.
On Sunday after a nice brunch with my stepmom, I made the 8.5 hour trek back to PA. M greeted me at the door with a sneaky grin, and I was too cranky to indulge him. Turns out he made cookies, cleaned the whole house, and bought a real Christmas tree while I was gone. What a sweet heart! When my cold exterior melted a few minutes later, we got to watch Kira running around the tree like she was in the wild before I fell asleep.

She keeps staring at it like a squirrel is about to pop out.

Hope y'all had a wonderful weekend while I was gone!
