Not The One Year Anniversary I Expected {Link Up}

Not The One Year Anniversary I Expected {Link Up}Today is the last week in the marriage link up series "From One Year To Beyond". We would love to have you link up your posts on the weekly topic (:

Today's Topic: One Year Anniversary Recap

While the majority of girls who link up today will probably have fun dinners or amazing vacations to share, unfortunately that is not what Ryan and I's first anniversary looked like.
As you all know, Ryan is in the Army, and one of the things you frequently get to deal with in the military is being pulled apart from each other at the most inconvenient times.
Ryan was sent out into the field for training for a month, falling right on top of our one year anniversary. He spent the day, out in the middle of nowhere in the dessert, while I was at the house by myself. The thing about this is, if I complain about this situation to any other military wife, they usually have very little sympathy. Not out of being cold or mean, but I told another wife about our anniversary and she told me that out of the past 8 years, her and her husband have only been together one time. I'm not telling you any of this as a "pity post", but rather to share the very REAL reality for a large amount of wives and how they spend their anniversaries each year. Am I sad that Ryan and I were not on a beach somewhere, having fun and relaxing as a couple? Of course! But these types of things come along with the territory when you are an Army wife.
Not The One Year Anniversary I Expected {Link Up}Just because we were apart though, Ryan and I still made every effort to make the day special. Ryan had flowers delivered and had left me gifts and a card. I had packed him surprises in his rucksack as well. We were blessed enough to get to still talk on the phone that day and we made the best of the situation that we were in.
I know that next year will probably be different. By then we will hopefully be out of the Army and will have the freedom to plan a fun trip or even just spend the day together in person. But since the question today was to re-cap your first anniversary, I thought it was important to share our day and the way that it was spent.
So to any of you other lovely ladies out there who didn't get to spend your first anniversary or any anniversary with your significant other, I feel you! It definitely is not fun or ideal...but I can't help but think that it makes those special days you DO get to spend together all the more precious and valuable (:
So come join all of us and link up your posts below! Share your hardest moments from your first year of marriage.
