Father and A Sydney nurse who last month suddenly fell ill with a mysterious virus has passed off, according to family members.
Russell Marsh, 39, a registered nurse at the emergency department at Fairfield Hospital, passed away on Friday, March 16, nearly a month after he had been struck with the mysterious ailment.
“With a heavy heart, I would like to tell everyone Russell passed away early this morning with his family by his side,” sister-in-law Jasmine Nguyen stated on the household’s GoFundMe webpage.
“He fought a tough battle within the previous 4 months but unfortunately, it had been a battle he did not win. We’d to thank everyone for their service, prays, donation and love,” she added.
Marsh was healthy until two weeks following Feb. 12 when he whined a patient had coughed on him, his wife Helen advised 9News final month.
“We don’t know for certain, but he was fine and healthy before we only came to believe he caught the flu or the bug from the individual who coughed on him,” Helen said.
The 39-year-old started to feel ill, suffering from a fever coughing, along with chills. He then took time and was brought to the emergency department.
“prior to the assessment, Russell was not getting enough oxygen to his body and mind, and was placed on nonstop ventilation and admitted to the high dependency unit,” Nguyen composed on the crowdsourcing page.
After his condition worsened, he had been placed on life support with severe respiratory failure as well as kidney failure.
An inquiry by Fairfield Hospital found there was no connection between the individual and Marsh’s illness.
“Fairfield Hospital has conducted an evaluation and will confirm there is not any connection between an individual for whom Mr Marsh was affectionate and Mr Marsh’s disease,” the hospital’s General Manager Arnold Tammekand advised 9News.
“It is improper for people to speculate further on what might have caused his illness.”
Helen told 9News that earlier the death of Marsh, doctors had been not able to ascertain the specific cause of their decline in health.
“They think that it’s some type of virus but they don’t understand and they stated there is a chance they may never understand,” she told the news channel last month.
The couple has been married for 20 years and has a kid, Ronan.
Tammekand told the news channel that Marsh had been a valued team member and will be sadly missed.
“All employees at Fairfield Hospital extend their sincere sympathies to Mr Marsh’s family in this difficult time,” he explained.
“We’ve been in contact Mr Marsh’s spouse to provide our condolences for her loss.”
