For new parents, setting up the nursery and making it nice for the baby is often one of the most enjoyable aspects of waiting for the baby to arrive, but if you’ve never done it before, it can be difficult to know where to start, which is why I’ve put together a few tips for you below.
Keep clutter to a minimum
It can be tempting to buy ALL the nursery toys and furniture in the store, but you’re probably going to want to hold off, for now at least. When you have a new baby, you need to be able to move around the room with ease so you can reach the changing table or walk around to get the baby off to sleep in the middle of the night, so the fewer obstructions the better.Use washable wallpaper
Wallpapering is often the more popular option for nursery decor because it does not come with a nasty die order of fumes like paint does. However, if you are going to wallpaper the nursery, you should absolutely plump for washable wallpaper. Why? Because babies and bodily fluids go hand in hand and you’ll be so grateful you did when vomit or pee meets your pretty wallpaper for the first time.Use natural materials
Natural materials, whether it the wicker of a Moses basket or the pine of the cot, are usually more durable and attractive than other materials, and they will typically hold their value better, so once your child has outgrown them, you can sell them on and recoup some of the costs. If you can part with them, that is!Choose a timeless theme
If you don’t want to have to be redecorating the nursery in a few years’ time, it’s a good idea to pick a theme that is both timeless and which will not be seen as babyish by your bundle in a shorter time than you would like. For example, instead of decorating with My Little Pony wallpaper, you could decorate with slightly more realistic looking unicorns or instead or instead of decorating with a Peppa Pig theme you could simply adopt a pink color scheme and add in a few Peppa toys that can be easily removed when your child grows out of them.Use framed artwork
On a similar note, if you do want to fill the nursery with lots of cute and colourful characters that your baby will love, a good way to do it, which is a lot less permanent is by simply framing various artworks and images of them. That way, you and the baby get to enjoy them for as long as you like, safe in the knowledge you can simply take them down and replace them with images of whatever they’re into when they’re 5, 10 or 15.Enjoy decorating your nursery and good luck!
