I had the most ridiculous injury a week ago. My phone was ringing, and I couldn’t find the handset. Flailing through the house to avoid the call going to voice mail, I smacked my hand against the wall, and OMG — Owwwww! My hand immediately turned purple, and within a day it swelled up like a balloon.
I went to the doctor without batting an eye, because I knew I was in trouble. What surprised me though is that I hadn’t broken anything. Instead, the doctor said my problem was due to internal bleeding. I’ve never had any internal bleeding before, but when I tell you that the pain that comes from it is excruciating, it is a gross understatement. It is the kind of pain that keeps you up at night and is with you all day long reminding you of your now limited use of movement.
I am so frustrated, and sorry for the whiny blog today, but how can I think of anything else when that throbbing in my hand is taking over? Please, for anyone who has been in this situation before, please feel free to chime in and tell me about your experience – how long it took you to get over it and what helped.
For now though, my song of the day is “One Hand In My Pocket.” I actually like this Christina Perri cover better than the original Alanis Morissette version, so here it is – a hand in a pocket hiding from the world. That’s me today.
