Carolyn See's literary granny prompt inspired me to write several short pieces which I wanted to give homes, so here I am blogging them.
Perhaps my process will spur something in your process - if nothing else, an "ok-ness" with writing and posting whatever comes up rather than waiting to write the great American essay or the blog post that rocked the century.
Instead... you may simply want to memorialize your version of "one perfect day" as I did here:
I am still in my pajamas and it is now officially after eleven a.m. on a Sunday morning. I realize for many of you this isn’t earth shattering but for me, it borders on outrageous and exceptionally far outside the norm.
I have left the house, I just kept my jammies on.
I put on my winter coat and off I went into the gray rainy morning. I wore a big smile, I snapped some photos along the way, but most of all, I felt ridiculously happy. Who made up the rules that said one must wear the absolutely perfect outfit each and every time we stepped outside the house?
Later today I plan to meet with friends and yes, I will put on a dress and lipstick and possibly even something resembling heels but for now I am so content to be wearing slightly ridiculous pajamas with Alice the Cat snuggled next to me and Samuel busy in the room next to this room silently doing whatever he is doing, happy happy happy.
There is no rushing.
There is no noise.
I have even set aside being annoyed by my neighbors.
It is, my loves, another perfect day.
How often do people think the perfect day involves spending a lot of money at an amusement park or going to the "in" restaurant or any other ideas about what makes a day just right.
Why not try, instead, to bring that just right day into whatever you are experiencing?
Be inspired by what is in front of you.
