Today marks one week that we have had to spend with our little girl! It's crazy because her due date was Tuesday, but instead of a brand new baby, she is eight days old.
The past week has flown by. We stayed in the hospital for 48 hours. We were able to come home on Friday. I cannot wait to share all of the details of Rilynn's birth. It was such an amazing experience and we feel blessed that everything went smoothly. Our friend and photographer was able to make it! So I am waiting to get the photos of the birth before I post the details.
The first three nights were really hard. Rilynn was constantly waking up and spitting up. She also would cry any time we tried to put her down. We eventually figured out that she has to sleep at an incline because she was having a little bit of a reflux issue. I was so frustrated, exhausted and in tears at 3am when we finally tried her bouncer. It worked! I didn't really feel comfortable with her being so upright so we ordered the rock n' play and it arrived today. I asked so many of you if your newborn slept in their crib or bassinet and it made me feel so much better that we aren't the only ones who seem to have a baby who can't sleep flat on their back.
As far as her sleeping habits after we started keeping her at an incline: she is an awesome baby! She eats every 2.5-3 hours, but it's usually closer to 3 at night and I am waking her. Once I got through the first 3 days, getting up in the night wasn't as bad as I thought. I think it's funny that while I'm up feeding her I see other new mama friends tweeting me or on instagram - it reminds me that we all understand what each other is going through and we aren't alone!
Besides that I am just falling more and more in love with her every day. She keeps getting more alert, staying awake longer and opening her eyes more frequently. She has the funniest expressions and it has been so amazing learning to be a parent with Ryan. It's definitely scary at times and I worry about her constantly, but I cannot believe you can love someone so much!
Thank you for all your kind comments and encouragement over the past week. It has meant so much to our family. I am trying to get back into the swing of things with blogging, but a newborn really does take up the majority of your waking hours. We are just soaking up our time with our precious little girl - especially because I have realized that time truly does fly by.
And here is what our first week together looked like:
