Sharing this particular Anglo-Australian wedding brings back lots and lots of wonderful memories! It was wonderful to be back operating as an Orchardleigh wedding photographer again, and we were blessed with fantastic weather. As it's the first day of summer and absolutely raining cats and dogs outside, it's nice to look at a bit of English sun for a change!
One of my favourite things about this wedding, which took place at Orchardleigh House in Somerset, is that the couple were such a treat to photograph. They were young, cool, and absolutely head over heels in love! It was one of the most emotional weddings I've photographed, for sure. This lovely young couple, who met whilst the bride was holidaying in Australia, had two young children who were also attendant at the wedding, who were just delightful. You know I love to photograph children at weddings - and sure enough, their little boy gave me one of my favourite images to date, which is shown below - can you guess which one it is?
One of the particular challenges of working as a wedding photographer at Orchardleigh House can come when the couple elect for a civil ceremony in the house. The ceremony takes place in the Great Hall, which whilst undeniably picturesque, is also long and relatively thin; and when the ceremony is at capacity, such as this one, there truly isn't a space for the photographer to be at the front and work. Added to that, as the bride and groom are generally placed off to one side, shots from the centre aisle are also in short supply! So, a bit of lateral thinking can be required, and for this wedding ceremony, I operated 'from the crowd', so to speak.
