Our Independence Day

Posted on the 05 July 2011 by Hollyshaun0528 @TwinglesMom42
Sorry for dragging my feet on this one, but after yesterday I really needed a day of rest. Thankfully, my kids were pretty good about allowing that. I'm sure they were still a bit burnt out too. My kids never sleep in, ever. I decided to bite the bullet anyway and let them all stay up late to see the fireworks. I'm glad we did. It was fun for all of us - Dawson especially enjoyed them - and I hadn't seen a real Fourth of July fireworks display since before I had the twins.
However, that meant my kids would be getting less sleep than usual overnight. They did sleep a tad bit past their usual 5:45ish waking point (by about an hour) so I got to "sleep in" until 6:50 this morning. Woohoo (sarcasm font seriously needed here). So it was a lay low/watch movies/color/play playdough kind of day today. It was great.
Now onto the more fun part - why I was so in need of a quiet day today: Our Independence Day was fantastic! Busy, but wonderful.
We began the day bright and early at the parade!

We tried to give him a flag. He wanted the hairbrush.

We made these cute little red, white, & blue stars in the afternoon - which I plan to recycle as Christmas ornaments. I got the idea from here!

Grandma and Grandpa came over to share a delicious meal of cheeseburgers, strawberries, baked beans, corn on the cob, and apple pie for dessert! I was far too busy eating at the time to take any pictures of it though.
And we ended the day just like any respectable American family...by blowing shit up!

I hope everyone else had a happy and safe weekend - then got a day of rest if needed!
