Our Spontaneous ER Visit

Posted on the 11 February 2014 by Mikidemann @mikidemann
Sunday was one of those days. It seems like it was a pretty gray weekend all around. When I ordered pizza Sunday night, after 3 hours, the delivery guy finally showed up and even he was having problems. His words were "my dad is trying to mooch money and my ex is fighting me on custody.. I can't wait to throw a few back."
So it looks like everyone in the world (or maybe just J, the pizza guy and I) had a really off day Sunday.
J and I were headed home from Wendover Sunday morning. It is about an hour and a half drive and J was getting one of his notorious migraines. He gets them often and lately he's been getting them more. About 20 minutes into the drive, he asked me to drive. Which is as rare was a bunny that can't hop. I was really nervous at this point. That meant things were bad. About an hour and a half later we arrive home. J went straight to the bedroom and laid down. He tried EVERYTHING. Icing his head, heat pad on his head, no lights, no TV, Excedrin, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, sleeping medicine, head rub, hot bath, seriously everything.
At this point he has had an excruciating migraine for about 12 hours. His normally last 6-8 hours and even though they are painful and unbearable, J can usually handle them at home. 12 hours into this deathly migraine. J told me that he think he needs to go to the ER. I was really frightened at this point, because we pretty much would stitch up our own hand before forking out the money to go the ER. Once again, another sign that it's the migraine from hell.
J stumbles into the ER, holding my arm at about 11pm. They check us in and get us situated in a nice dark room. Thankfully this hospital is quick and really cares about patients. We didn't even have to fill out paperwork or anything before we had the doctor in our room. He could tell J was in excruciating pain, so immediately he called in the nurse. She gave him a huge shot right above his bum that would help with the pain and nausea. She mentioned he’d be really tired in a few minutes and it should help him relax and sleep off the migraine.

She was right 15 minutes later, J was rambling and he dozed off into dreamland. They wanted to monitor him and make sure everything was alright, so we didn’t end up leaving until close to 1am. After we left the ER, we went to an all night pharmacy and filled the prescription the doctor gave us, just in case he woke up with a lingering migraine.
We rolled back into the house around 2am. J was dead asleep in the car, when I finally was able to wake him up, he went straight for the pizza. The medicine must have given him the munchies. I went to let the dogs out and get ready for bed. I turned around and J was asleep in bed with a piece of pizza falling out of his hand.
We both stayed home from work yesterday. I wanted to make sure he was okay when he woke up since the medicine made it so he couldn’t drive for 12 hours.
Now it’s Tuesday and everything seems to be back to normal, luckily!
