So much happening globally including in India in the past one month, that I was hoping for some reassurance, some hope, some good mood and probably some more positivity in the air.
And then Pantone releases the Color of the Year 2017. I could not have wished another color than GREEN or GREENERY to be more specific. It surely joins me in putting forth a message of positivity and rebirth in the wake of the developments recently.
Undoubtedly a "refreshing & revitalising" shade. Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings. The color evokes the first days of spring when nature's greens revive, restore and renew. Greenery symbolises many things : a fresh start for a New Year, healthier food resolutions, spring and summer or may we say in India - New Money too?
Greenery ultimately highlights the 're-' words: refresh, revive, restore, renew, replenish, rejuvenate, reinvigorate, re-oxygenate.
Nature's neutral - it is an omnipresent hue around the world. A life affirming shade, Greenery is undoubtedly emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality. The color signals to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate. It is for sure a color which reflects the prevailing mood or sentiments.
I remember an article in January 2016 Back to Nature where I had mentioned that there was such a growing desire to bring nature back home. Thank you Pantone to bring it truly back beyond home. The big macro driver here was getting back to nature.
It would truly be refreshing when design decisions are being made and the color directing are taken. Unlike the last year where we were at crossroads with the dual color, this year the color choices are so tied to my personal expression.
Greenery color/ design palette would surely persuade, engage, enlist and enable new directions through the year. Like the spectrum of possibilities in colorful petals and blooms paired with lush green leaves, plants and trees, Greenery provides a pop of color in accessories and footwear, or acts as a bold accent in a pattern.
Bringing the outside in, the shade - like the plant life it represents, the color can improve self- esteem, reduce anxiety and heighten awareness of one's surroundings.
With healthier food resolutions and growing vegetarian trends, the new Pantone color of the year will help Greenery being pulled to the forefront. But may I also say that beyond the natural environment, the color reflects the social and political landscape as well. Question is that if the selection of the color was directly influenced by the green of money (demonetisation) or the recent election.
Time will tell if people go green with envy or it will tell us inherit unity of the natural world. But I completely agree this year with the Pantone's Color of the Year 2017 - GREENERY.
Its for us to get inspired from nature's nature to revive, restore & renew!
