Pantone Color of the Year 2018

Inventive & imaginative, as Pantone defines it!

A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future. This is the defining hue that takes its cues from the year behind us, and attempts to set the tone for the year ahead.

The color experts at Pantone followed up on 2017's Greenery by selection a hue that is as unexpected as it is refreshing : Ultra Violet.

It is an interior design moment that I wait for all the year. I agree with Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute - " The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than 'what's trending' in the world of design; it's truly a reflection of what's needed in our world today."

Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Coming out of a period of time where everyone's focus was on a more neutral color scheme, Pantone's color of the year brings a contrasting and unexpected tone into the home. The rich, vibrant color adds a warm and whimsical alternative.

Ultra violet is a bold choice that can bring confidence and originality to a space when styled correctly. Purple hues are thought to be soothing and can make us feel more calm. Ultra violet is a great choice for a bathroom, where it can give the space a vibrant lift.

Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today's over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.

To sum up, Pantone deciding to push the boundaries with this visionary color instead of playing it safe is a major step towards to the future of design in 2018, I believe. The dreamy color is certainly what stylists & designers need to boost their creativity and convey deep emotions through their designs in any professional design field.

I'm eager to see what awaits!
