Paradise Found

Paradise is a place on earth. In my home. In my mind. Really. Because I choose to think that way.

I was just reading Elle’s post about little words making a big difference and it took me back six months to the beautiful trip we made to Northeast India. Oh, that was paradise, indeed. Now that I am forced to rest most of the time, I can’t help fantasizing making another trip to Sikkim to visit all the monasteries we missed during our short trip. Unfortunately we couldn’t stretch it because flight tickets were not available on the dates we wanted on the specific airline we were supposed to travel in.  It sort of irked me that  goindigo had a great package, but since this was an “official” holiday, we were bound by rules. Still, once the formalities were taken care of, we had quite a lovely time although it was a rushed trip.

Another thing that triggered the memory was my lovely prayer wheel, busy rotating in response to the sunlight. It is solar-powered and is a delight to watch. I was so excited when I bought it at the Ganesh Tok temple shop in Sikkim. I found it fascinating. Here, check it out – I made a little video just for you:

The other side looks like this: See the dark patch at the base? That is the solar panel that catches the sunlight and powers the drum.

Vidya Sury Flight Plans and Fantasies

I fondly recall the hours we had to wait at the airport during that trip. What was I reading? All American Girl” by Meg Cabot and quite enjoyed it.

Calcutta airport and happily lost in our books

Fond memories. The day we were returning back to Bangalore, we were so nervous about making the airport on time and literally had our hearts in our mouths as our taxi whizzed down the winding roads from Darjeeling to Bagdogra airport. We rushed into the airport and the check-in counter with our air tickets in our hands, only to find that our flight had been delayed by several hours. It was an adventure because it put our connecting flight at risk

I am somewhat peeved at not being able to walk around. How weird to feel mentally fine and being held back by physical injuries!  The waiting game sucks.

I had a nap this afternoon, much to my consternation. I just thought I’d lay down for a little while to rest my throbbing right leg, still swollen, silly thing.  The bruise was also smarting.  So I settled down with a book. And not two seconds later, was out like a light. I didn’t even feel the thud of the book on my face. I awoke, two hours later to find that Sury was back home and stunned to see me sleeping! That made two of us. Vidur just kept grinning as though he had engineered the whole thing.

So I freshened up, made a much needed mug of coffee and settled down to a pleasant evening of music with my folks. We each had a play list and really enjoyed a happy couple of hours of listening to our favorite songs before dispersing to get around our respective activities before dinner.

I am glad that I don’t have any work deadlines right now.  While this unexpected accident has put me out of commission for a few days, I am relieved to have the time to let go, rest and recuperate in my own little paradise.

As always, I appreciate the love showered on me by family and friends.

This too shall pass…but while I go through the experience, I am determined to make the most of it and have a good time.
