Parenting with love and logic really is the best way.
In retrospect the word “parenting” translates to “fun” for me. I may or may not have said this a decade ago since our feelings about any role are influenced by the prevailing situation. I admit to being frustrated, nervous and all those other emotions that take up residence when we deal with our children. But I am glad to say that they were just fleeting. I had a good example to follow – all I had to do was remember how my Ma dealt with me through the growing years to calm down and realize that the view is in the eyes of the beholder – in this instance, mine.
Parenting is a very important and wonderful job. Without exception, every parent would like to raise children who are confident, resilient and happy.
I am lucky I started off with great raw material. Like every Mother, I think I am blessed with the best kid in the world. But seriously, it is a pleasure to raise him, especially because I grow up a little each time there is a significant change. I love it when he says I am the best Mom in the world – no praise is higher, right? How to ensure that he continues to think so for the longest time?
Here is what I’ve learned: Please continue reading this post here: What I learned about parenting
I try my best to lead by example….because….

Now, I have something very exciting to share with you.
Last week, Victor Schueller, Professor of Positivity and Possibility invited me to appear on his radio show. Yes – radio show! and you know what? Live. LIVE! It was scheduled for March 11 at 12.00 noon, Wisconsin time. That was 10.30 pm at night for me. So yes, I was a teeny bit nervous.
You see, the only experience I have with live radio interviews is one, when I was 15. Seems like a different life. A neighbor, who was doing a short stint with the local radio station wanted to interview a bunch of children of single mothers for Mothers Day. She chose me. Oh well, I lived upstairs and jumped at the idea. I was 15 and believed I could conquer the world.
So D-day came and she asked a few questions and I sang a song and quoted some quotes and – since those were the days of audio tapes, I asked if I could get a copy. Of course she said yes. Of course I didn’t get one. Later, a very edited version was broadcast and barely two minutes of the interview was included as it was stitched together with several others.
Anyway – when Victor said we would chat for a few minutes before going on air – I thought – great! I have known Victor for over a year now and just love his blog. He is very insightful and has brought on many a-ha moments for me through his posts and interviews.
In the evening, Vidur checked the speakers and the webcam to see if everything was working. And believe it or not – at 9.30 pm – an hour before the radio show, my computer froze. Ha, I thought. We have two laptops in the house so no problem. Anyway – rebooting seemed to do the trick. Also, I like the spot where my desktop computer sits.
As I waited, I thought I would write the parenting post scheduled to be published on Parentous on March 13 – and of course, the idea rose from my son’s actions – and I thought yes – parenting with love and logic – and wrote it up. At 10.15 pm, as promised, Victor called. Even though I’ve listened to his voice in his interviews with others, it was very different – probably because it was focused on me. Any nervousness I might have felt disappeared as I listened to him introduce me. I swear I felt two feet taller!
Would you like to listen to the radio show? It lasted 30 minutes. And rather than send you away to listen to it, I figured out how to embed it right here. So go on – click the “play” button – and listen. I am loving how technology brings us all closer!
Tell me what you think!
Have you been in a radio show?
Love, Vidya
